Guiding star meets Bollywood’s superstar family – Kapoors

Dr. Kapoor was born in the family of film producers and businessmen. But the closest he came to filmdom was his public lectures, which are also video graphed. This gave him a feeling of stardom. But there is another starry side to it.

His friendship with the patriarch of Bollywood’s first family goes back to the late 60s, when he was asked to diagnose what was wrong with Prithviraj Kapoor. He correctly diagnosed it as a classic symptom of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. His developed a close friendship with Prithviraj’s son and the superstar actor‐director, Raj Kapoor.

He is a consulting physician to Krishna Raj Kapoor and Kareena’s mother, Babita. His close ties with the Kapoor family inspired him to name his two sons after Raj’s brothers, Shammi and Shashi. The custom has been extended to his grandson Rishi and granddaughter Sanjana as well.

Interestingly, Dr. Kapoor has an anecdote to tell about beginning of his writing career. He says it was the legendary Raj Kapoor who encouraged him to write for the public. Thus, his literary career took off with the famous “Kapoor’s Family Medical Guide”.
